Part 2 of data binding tutorial.

Posted By wassim in Flash, Flash Tutorials

Hello again,

In part one, we saw an easy way to use the XML connector and dataBinding component to assign the contentPath propery of the media player component to one entry of an XML playlist.

In this tutorial, we go one step further and add a dataGrid then bind the selected index of that grid to the contentPath of the media Player component.

Before going further in this explanation, have a look here :

Custom MP3 Player-Glassy look

So how we do that?

First, the dataProvider property of the dataGrid has to be linked to the result of the XML parameter and more precisely to the array object in the results.

This ensures automatic parsing of the XML data into a bidimensional array which the dataGrid can use as a dataProvider.

Then, we use this code to listen to cell press event and to respond accordingly :

myListener = new Object();
myListener.change = function(evtObj) {
mp.contentPath = dg.selectedItem.location;
}
dg.addEventListener(”change”,myListener);

Where dg is the instance name of the dataGrid component and mp is that of the mediaPlayer component.

I’ve uploaded 4 songs I found on my HD, they do not correspond to the entries in the XML playlist yet that what I have for now so :)…

Till the next tutorial, stay safe and don’t do stupid things !

Bye.

We miss you Nadim…

One of my students, 17 years old Nadim Moughrabi, passed away two days ago in a car accident, I knew about it yesterday and I was really saddened by this big loss…
We spend years and years with our students, we enjoy having them around and we don’t mind seeing them leave as graduates, we know we’ll probably not see them again after graduation but that’s ok, they go on with their lives and it’s our job to get them ready for the rest of their journey after all…
Nadim was not just any students, he was special, a pure hearted, respectful yet fun person you just can’t ignore…
He left and we’re still stuck wondering what happened, we expect this young man to just walk into school tomorrow, singing away as usual…It’s just so hard for me and for every other teacher in school to see one of our young sons leaving this way.
The long teaching hours we spend with our students, watching them grow and mature, sharing the good and bad times with them makes us a big family, without knowing it we become so strongly tied that such a sad event affects everyone’s life so deeply as if a real family member has died…
May God grant his family, especially his twin brother Ayman who happens to be another student of mine, patience and strength and may God have mercy on our beloved Nadim.
