Why I have not switched to Linux yet is because most of the software I own runs under windows and there is no Linux version for these unfortunately (mostly flash related tools+3dmax and after effects).

The flash authoring tool I use (flash CS3) cannot be run under Linux, the current Version of Wine is still incapable of correctly doing the required emulation (besides, it is having hard time staying up and running even under native windows!, good job on this Adobe)

I've never heard of Crossover Office, thanks for mentioning it, it sure is worth having a look at.

Oh... and if you need flash Authoring tools, FlashMX can be run under Wine, and if you don't want to fiddle with it, you can use FlashMX under Crossover Office.

There is also a project to make an open source Flash authoring platform. It's called AMES.

Sorry to hear about your woes. I have an old Hotmail account that I hold on to as well. I use Thunderbird with the webmail extension to get my Hotmail stuff. Although I do recommend Linux, you don't have to use Linux to use Thunderbird with the webmail extension.

As far as Flash goes, Linux has been able to play Flash for a very long time. In fact, I think (not sure) that Ubuntu comes with the Flash player pre-installed, which is even more convenient than in Windows.
